After 2 years of waiting the 4th Healthcare Study Tour to The Netherlands is on and will take place from the 25th till the 30th of September 2022.
The last Study Tour to The Netherlands in 2019 was a great balance of learning, reflection and networking. You can download the 2022 brochure here (4.6mb). Please contact us and we’ll send you the application form.
The Netherlands is well known for its innovative approach when it comes to caring for the elderly and those with dementia. We will visit aged care facilities and other aged care supporting organisations, encouraging each other to think in new ways.
The World Health Organisation predicts that the number of people aged 60 and over will reach two billion by 2050, while dementia cases will triple to 141 million. How can we manage this with our limited healthcare budgets, and without sacrificing the quality of care? Innovation is going to be critical.
Chief executives, directors of nursing, clinical managers, quality improvement specialists, occupational therapists, dementia care experts, nurse practitioners focusing on the elderly, healthcare auditors, healthcare policy makers, Ministry of Health officials and members of parliament responsible for seniors.
When and where?
The tour will start Sunday evening September 25th, 2022 with a group introduction and will finish on Friday (afternoon) September 30th. During the week we will stay in a comfortable hotel at the outskirts in the picturesque city of Delft . Traveling to all the venues will be by minibus with a designated driver.
Our focus is to introduce participants to innovative projects and models which provide excellent care to the elderly population (with and without dementia). This will stimulate new ideas and strategies for change, complementing the needs of our elderly.
Places we visit
• A healthcare insurance company
• A small scale aged care facility
• A quality improvement institute
• A Dementia day care facility
• The Dementia Green Care farm “Buitengewoon”
Feedback from previous participants
“A fantastic opportunity to travel with like-minded people who want to develop models of care that keep our elderly vulnerable people at home well supported. The Netherlands has some stunning examples of such models we can learn from.”
Sandy Blake, Director of Nursing, Whanganui District Health Board
“In New Zealand, we tend to look to the United Kingdom to guide service development. But what we saw in the Netherlands took many concepts to a higher level.”
Professor Jenny Carryer, Massey University
“Extremely valuable week. Programme was excellent in its variations and content. Have got so much more out of it than I’d hoped.”
Dr Kate Scott, Geriatrician, Capital and Coast District Health Board.
